So I'm a 2nd year Computer Science major, and was expecting to work my ass off to get a 68%, but I'm doing the opposite. I'm going to share with you a few tips that have helped me boost my marks while studying less.

**Disclaimer:** Before reading this, I am not against studying. I'm pro studying, just like hard work. However, I feel everyone knows how to study, hard work, all of that stuff. It's about how to nail it down and make it easier on yourself. I'm not going to say "make a study group" or "make flashcards" or read a text book. These tips are a bit out of the box, but they work for me. Everyone knows different things work for them.

So here are 5 tips I've found that work for me:

---

**1. Create a better work environment**

I'm sure your desk is a mess as shit. You probably have notes, random papers, a bunch of empty water bottles, and broken pencils all over the place. that's not a good study environment. During one of my lectures, I went to Office Depot and bought some stuff to make my desk look better, and it has been a game changer. I bought a bunch of stuff to make it all roam around, a desk calendar, stuff like that. It makes it feel like a real office desk. Honestly, it feels so much better to study when it's all clean and organized. It helps you get less distracted and actually feel like you're doing something. It's a good feeling to have.

**2. I'm doing all of my assignments as soon as possible**

You have a 2 month long assignment? Why not do the entire thing in one night? Doing this has been a game changer. I'm sure you know that feeling when all of your assignments are due at the end of the semester and you're stressing out last minute. If you do your assignments early, you don't need to worry about them, and you can actually focus on studying. It also helps you feel so much better, and not have to deal with all of that stress. This has probably been the best part of these tips for me. I'm able to focus on studying because I don't have anything else I need to do. It's an environment where you can actually focus on learning and actually getting good marks.

**3. I'm doing 100% of the assigned readings, but in my own way**

So I'm sure we all know that feeling when you're sitting there reading a chapter. You're reading and reading and you just get so sick of it. The goal is not to read the chapter. The goal is to absorb the information. I found that if I listen to an audiobook of a chapter, I'm more likely to absorb all of the information. I roam around my room, or clean something, and I'm actually able to absorb all of the information. I'm not tired, I get it all in, and it's so much better than sitting there reading a chapter.

**4. I've been creating a monthly study plan**

Wouldn't it be great if you could study once a month, and then not have to think about studying again for a month? That's what I did. I create a study plan once a month, and I actually get a lot of studying done. I go through each class, I write out all of the things I need to know, and I make sure I know them. I make sure I know it all, and I review it all. So the rest of the month, I don't have to think about studying. I can actually focus on other things, and it's a much better environment. I put all of the stress into studying at the beginning of the month, so I can enjoy the rest of the month.

**5. I'm being able to focus on classes that I need to focus on **

I have 5 classes: 3 easy, and 2 difficult. For the 3 easy classes, I only need to study for a little bit, and that's it. But for the 2 harder classes, I focus a lot more on them. I study more for them, and I make sure I understand the material. I use a lot of the methods I've talked about, like audiobooks, creating a better environment, stuff like that.\
\
Even though studying sucks, it's a crucial part of college. You need to study in order to get good marks, and you will need to put in that effort.
