Am I just an idiot for trying to date as a man in my 40s? I'm seriously questioning my own sanity.

I'm in my early 40s, been trying to date for the last year. 8-10 dates with no second date. I'm not a weird guy, I'm friendly and not socially awkward, I'm in good shape, make good money, have my own house, etc. I've tried a variety of ways to meet women, but the most recent one has been through a dating app.

I met a woman recently and we had a date, it went great, and I asked if she wanted to do it again later this week. And we set up another date. And then we talked a lot yesterday, and I was really excited for the second date.

And she just ghosted me, and deleted her app profile. I'm not furious, it's kind of the default now, but I just wonder what women want? What am I supposed to do? I'm just supposed to game? I've tried being nice and genuine and that doesn't seem to work.

I really like this woman and I just don't know why I'm suddenly just not worth talking to.

Honestly, I don't even know what to do. Should I just abandon the idea of dating a woman at all? What is the friggen point of putting effort in when it always leads to nothing?

I'm not angry, I'm just kind of defeated.
