This is a review of the book “My OC Does an Illegal Substance” on Wattpad. It’s not my first book from the “My OC” series, but it is my first book with Ava in it.

# Test Subject
My first assumption was that Ava was a cool person. She was an up to speed reader, she was accurate, and she appeared to be very interested in what she was reading. Then, upon further inspection, she was highly irrational. Ava was an “up to speed” reader, meaning that she could read and interpret what she was reading at a speed equivalent to a machine, but she couldn’t read faster than her own speed. In other words, she was incapable of skimming. That’s why she was obsessed with the winery.

The plot started off around Ava, and then as the story went on, Ava was simply an audience surrogate. She was the readers in the flesh, and that’s all there was to her. There was no reason for her to be in the story with her own backstory, because the author never explored it (they never even mentioned it). The only reason Ava was in the story was as the main character.

# Conclusion
The plot was convoluted as the author tried to cram in a lot of different storylines. It was uncomplicated in the sense that it was easy to follow, but in the sense of any resolution, it was convoluted. The pacing was terrible, and I soon found myself skipping entire chapters because they were boring.

The Characters were all the same, but Ava was the worst. She had no backstory (which was fine) but she was also supposed to be the main character, so not having a backstory was not fine. She reacted irrationally to situations and did things that didn’t make sense because the author insisted on a specific plot point.

Overall, this was a boring and terrible book. I think I would have liked this more if it was a different character, but Ava was a terrible character.

*6/10*

# Rating
1.
