I'm a 30 year old American citizen who was born and raised in New York and live in Hawaii. I recently bought a plane ticket to go to Japan but there was a layover in Singapore for a day. I thought Singapore was interesting and decided to stay there for a day to see what was going on.

So I walked up to customs, told them that I was going to travel around Singapore and the guy at the booth said that I wasn't allowed in. He took my passport then walked me to a holding area. I was confused and thought it was weird that they wouldn't let me in because I have never had any issues with customs.

My plane was in 6 hours so I was getting a little anxious but I figured it would be fine. An officer came up to me and asked me about my trip and I told him I was just gonna walk around for a day. He then asked to see my plane ticket. I showed him and told him I was going to Japan. He then asked "when are you leaving" and I told him in 6 hours. He said that wasn't true because my ticket was for 3 weeks from now. So I explained that I had a layover but he didn't believe me. I told him to look at the layover date and he finally believed me and said I was good to go and to go catch my flight.

I missed my flight and had to wait until the next day for another flight. So I had to spend the night in the holding area in the airport which was very miserable. There was like 50 other people who were in the same boat as me including one other American. The next morning I asked the same officer from yesterday about my situation and he said he would look into it. He said they were still trying to verify my ticket.

I asked what they needed from me to verify and he said that he just needed time to look into it. After about 3 hours he came back to me and told me that I was not allowed in Singapore and that the reason why is in the letter he gave me. He wouldn't let me read it but he told me that I was being deported.

I asked him why and what the letter said and he told me that they thought I dumped my child in Singapore. I told him I didn't even have a child but he didn't believe me. I was so confused because I had never even been to Singapore before and I didn't even know anybody in Singapore. He wouldn't tell me anything else so he escorted me to the plane and I left.

Now I'm in Tokyo and I'm trying to figure out wtf happened. I have no idea why they thought I had a kid or how they even got that idea. I've never even been in trouble with the law before so I don't get it. I'm definitely never going back to Singapore again. If anybody has any info please let me know what went wrong.
