Can I (25F) get my house back?

I bought a house a little over a year ago. I was planning on living there with my fiancé, but he bailed on our wedding and left me less than a month before it was supposed to happen. He was living in the house with me until a few months ago. <br>He had a lot of time on his hands and spent a lot of it doing whatever the hell he wanted to the house. He put new flooring throughout, painted the walls, and put in new fixtures. He also spent a lot of time in the backyard, making it look really nice. <br><br>Well, he just moved out into his own place, and he's saying he wants to be reimbursed for all of those things he did, because he thinks it raised the value of the house. I don't know enough about real estate to know if he actually did increase the value of the house, but he says he did. He thinks he should get some sort of payment for it because it was a waste of his time when he didn’t end up staying. He also says he doesn’t know how he’s going to pay for his new place. <br><br>He says he doesn’t care if he has to take me to court, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pay for a lawyer. I don’t want to have to pay him back for anything.<br><br>Is this something he would even be able to get if he took me to court? Did I sign anything saying he could do this? I don’t think there was any paperwork, maybe he didn’t know I’d need it. Could he just take money from me?
