My wife says I’m a bad father.

A couple of days ago my wife said I’m a bad father because I made my son cry

Here’s how it went down. We were at the park, I was sitting on a bench, and my son kept climbing up the ladder to go down the slide, but he was scared to actually go down. My wife kept going over and encouraging him to go so that he’d be more confident, and he eventually, he went down the slide.

However, he fell on his butt and started crying. I asked him if he was okay, and my wife said “See, you’re a bad father. I knew he’d fall but you just let him go down the slide.” I said what? No, kids have to fall sometimes in order to learn, it’s healthy for them. She said “Even when they’re scared? You should have gone over there just like I did and made sure he felt comfortable, instead you just let him go and he fell, that’s not a good father. You don’t like showing your kids love.”

This is the same thing that she said whenever my son was learning to walk, or whenever he rode a bike for the first time. Yes, I let him fall, because that’s how kids learn. The thing is, is that my son doesn’t even care. He’s not traumatized or anything. He was happy to go down the slide again, and whenever he rides his bike he’s happy to fall off it. But no, my wife always goes on these tirades about how I’m a bad father. It’s really starting to get annoying.

Another thing she does is whenever our son does something that she doesn’t like, she blames me for it. For example, whenever he says a bad word, she always says “Well, he learned that from you.” Even though I don’t say bad words around him, ever. I don’t know where he’s learning these words from, but apparently it’s my fault.

I’ve tried explaining to her that parents need to give kids room to fail, so they can grow as people. But she always says that I’m a bad father for doing this, and that kids don’t need to fall in order to learn. What do you think, Anons? Am I in the wrong here, or is my wife just being stupid?
