Learning a language with a small number of native speakers

So here is my question: I am currently learning a language with a number of less than 3M native speakers worldwide. This language is pretty unusual for English speakers and has an entirely different writing system.

I am having a lot of trouble in the beginning because of 2 reasons 1) the lack of resources. Yes there are a lot of language resources online, but ones that are well thought out and logical are a rare thing. I find myself a lot being puzzled as to why certain things are the way they are in this language and I just don't have enough resources to help me see a bigger picture. 2) This language is too unfamiliar for English speakers, that's why I think it is not as well covered in language courses as other European languages, say Spanish or German. I did encounter lots of questions in language courses about Latin and Greek roots, because they are important for all the European languages, but this language operates on totally different grounds. So all my logic I built up while learning foreign languages is useless here.

I have been trying to learn a lot of new languages throughout my life, but this language is the biggest challenge ever. It is like the entire world is against me stamping my feet and saying you shall not learn this language. Therefore I would like to know, folks, have you had any experience of learning a language with a small number of native speakers? What was your strategy? How did you overcome the obstacles?
