CMV: suicide is rationally the right choice for a certain set of people.

Recently there's been a bunch of studies and statistics released purporting to show that a high percentage of people who attempt suicide end up glad that they didn't succeed. I think these studies are completely irrelevant.

The issue is that these studies only look at the people who failed to commit suicide, and not the ones who actually were successful. In fact, these studies wouldn't even exist if we didn't have a specific interest in suicide and the act of suicide in particular; if there were studies for basically any other dangerous/risky activity, the fact that most people who attempted activity X ended up glad they hadn't done it would still be irrelevant if the people who actually did it for real didn't have an opinion because they died.

There are plenty of people in this world who, no matter how much effort they put in and no matter what choices they make, will never find happiness. They will suffer to some degree, some minor some major, for the rest of their life. If someone is never going to find happiness, and will only suffer, and they have access to painless methods of suicide, then suicide would be the rational choice for them to make.
