Is this just me or is this not the year to have student teachers?

I’m in a decent sized suburb in the Midwestern United States, and I’ve got a student teacher this semester and the university is saying they’re going to send more in the spring.\
\
My student teacher had a crisis because a kid coughed on her. I was like calm down. I get it. But we’re going to be here, so might as well be fine. And (stupidly) I said we were going to follow all the CDC guidelines, and she said the CDC doesn’t require people to wear masks.\
\
Then I got a call from the university saying that they were requiring all student teachers to wear masks. I said fine. But what about the “we’re a mask free campus” e mail I got last week? “We know that they do. But we are requiring all of our student teachers to wear masks.”\
\
Ok. Got it. Ask the student teacher to wear a mask and she said “what about the email, we’re mask free.” I said the university is requiring you to wear a mask. I need you to wear a mask.\
\
This is going to end well…\
\
Also, not that student teacher’s fault, but they’re not great. And I’m supposed to give them feedback. So that they can get better. But they’re not particularly good with the kids, and I’m not being mean, but they need to learn quickly.\
\
I don’t like student teachers. I like them being graduated and putting them in an actual classroom.\
\
But the university is sending us student teachers. And we’re going to have to find a way to work with them because it is what it is. What are we going to do?
