So I've devoloped a new technique that I'm really enjoying on occasion, and it seems to really make my writing more interesting as a side note.

Here's what you do:

Step 1: Write a good 200-400 word section of your story.

Step 2: Take a break.

Step 3: Convince yourself that your writing is shit.

Step 4: Give yourself a speech about how you don't really like writing anyway, and you need a break.

Step 5: Scratch that itch and buy yourself some new cables or a used hardback edition of a classic novel on Ebay.

Step 6: Lay down on your couch and start doomscrolling.

Step 7: Watch your insides turn as you start to think about how much time you wasted on that money.

Step 8: Open up your document again and start to read.

Step 9: Make the changes that come to mind as you read.

Step 10: Slip back in to your story, overwrite the section you've been having trouble with, and then keep writing.

Step 11: On the off chance that you get stuck again, just start fresh on a new document and make a small change to your story.

Step 12: Write as much as you can in 30 minutes.

Step 13: Go back to your original story and read it.

Step 14: Pick out the best parts of it in so far as you can, and then go back to writing your "new" story.

Step 15: Continue writing your new story until you get stuck again, then start a new document, make some changes, and repeat the process.

Step 16: Continue repeating steps 12-15 until you feel inclined to go back to one of your other stories, then do so.

Step 17: At this point you should be back to writing your original story.

Step 18: Go back through all of your other story drafts and pull out your favorite lines, then incorporate them into your original story in a way that makes sense.

Step 19: Keep writing your original story until you've finished your first draft.

Step 20: Go back and edit your story.

Enjoy your novel, and try to make the best of the emotional rollercoaster that will be your creative process.
