Do you ever feel like “not a prize to be won”?

I have been in a few long relationships (10-18 months), had girlfriends, and now I’m dating someone awesome. I can’t help but feel like I’m something to be achieved, like a prize to be won.

I get told I’m “a catch” by friends (boy and girl) but usually said in a negative tone. It’s as if I’m something to be won as quickly as possible, or that I’m so special it’s an achievement. I don’t get why I’m an achievement. I don’t think myself that important. I’m sure it’s meant as a compliment, but it really does feel negative. I’ve just been told it again by my new partner recently when speaking about the past.

Is it normal to feel this way? I don’t like being considered a prize, it’s fucking terrifying. It makes me feel like I’m fragile and precious, when I really just want to be as loved and cared for as anyone else.
