How would you feel about a war between the US and China?

I think a war between the US and China is a very real threat for the future. While the two nations aren't enemies and are unlikely to fight a war right now, this isn't a guarantee, and it doesn't prevent the threat of a war down the road. While there are several similarities that could prevent war, such as a nuclear deterrent, strong trade ties, and diplomacy, there are several areas of tension that could cause a conflict. As someone in the US who is very interested in China and is fluent in Mandarin, I'm very concerned about a potential war between the two nations.

The main cause of a war would be the South China Sea, where China claims a large area of the sea while the surrounding nations claim parts of it as well. The US wants to protect Taiwan and any other nations that could be threatened by the Chinese government, and is worried about losing access to Asia should a war break out. This has led to China increasing their naval capabilities and borrowing the "Anti-Access/Area-Denial (A2/AD)" strategy from Russia, which would involve the use of any weapon to prevent an enemy from entering an area. China has also talked about using a strategy referred by some as the "Assassins Mace", where a smaller nation could use a single weapon to defeat a larger nation, with the example of David and Goliath used to describe the strategy. This could see China use anti-ship missiles, mines, or submarines to sink enemy ships or deter nations from thwarting their plans.

China has also militarized some islands in the South China Sea, with runways and missile defenses built on them. While these islands could allow China to project power into the surrounding area, any war would likely see these islands targeted by the US and its allies, as they still have a small defense system. The fact that the islands are in the middle of the sea and many of them have to import materials could also create a logistical headache, as it could be hard to supply the islands, especially if a war were to break out.

However, the situation is more complicated, as China has to balance the US with other nations, especially Japan and North Korea. The US has a treaty with Japan, where they would defend Japan in case of war, and has several military bases on the Japanese islands. This could see China have to fight a war on two fronts, as it has also had a long-standing rivalry with Japan. China is also a key ally for North Korea, and while China may not be able to prevent war from breaking out on the Korean Peninsula, they would have to be prepared to intervene in case of war.

I hope it doesn't come to this, but if it were to happen, what would you think?
