Samsung plans to invest more than $192 billion in the next 20 years in Texas, as the South Korean tech giant puts down deeper roots in America.

Samsung plans to spend over $192 billion in Texas on five more semiconductor plants (fabs), expanding the company’s presence in the United States by nearly tripling its investment in its U.S. foundry business.<br><br>Samsung Electronics announced the spending plan in a statement posted on its website. It said it’s a “20-year investment roadmap."<br><br>Samsung is planning to build the new plants on a 3,932-acre campus in Taylor, Texas, not far from Austin, where the company already is putting up a new $17 billion facility.<br><br>It expects the five new fabs to create 15,000 new jobs, including 8,000 directly tied to Samsung.<br><br>Construction begins next year, with the first new fab expected to be complete by 2034. The remaining four are expected to be completed between 2036 and 2041.<br><br>Samsung previously said it would spend $359 billion upgrading its chip business through 2030.
