**My argument for why people are complaining about premium features**

I always wondered why people complain so much about Google and Facebook. Two of the most successful companies in history for free, and the only cost is some targeted ads. It's terrific.

But then I realized that people aren't bitching about the ads as long as the services are top-notch. If you can count on these services to deliver, you don't care if they make money off of ads. Google also never promised to deliver a superior service to premium users and charge those users on top of the free version. That's not what OpenAI did.

OpenAI promised ChatGPT users a superior service to Bard users, and now they've realized they want to make a profit off millions of users. The problem is that these users think they've been scammed. People who paid for this premium service are complaining because OpenAI is cheapening the once elite service and selling the same service at a lower price under a different name but worse quality. **People don't care if OpenAI makes a profit, but if there is a premium and non-premium service, the premium service needs to be superior.**

If OpenAI definitely wants to make money off of ChatGPT, they need to come up with a way to be profitable without cheapening the once elite service. They need to promise that a new feature will only be available to premium users and charge accordingly. Yes, it will probably still be a backlash, but it would be less because you are paying for a superior product.
