What are your favorite "self-insert but that's okay" stories?

I'm in a lot of creative writing chambers and see a lot of disdain for the "self-insert" trope, I do agree that it can be poorly done sometimes. However, there are some examples from more established authors where it's done well, and worked for me. My favorite example is Doctor Who, where the Doctor is a tall, skinny, goofy-acting, comically-inclined, Time Lord with two hearts, however, that Time Lord is a thin-ish, goofy-acting, purple-haired, British guy with a thick accent and a love of sonic screwdrivers. Or, for example, Discworld, where Death appears as this imposing figure with a scythe and black hood, but when he talks it's in capital letters, and he has a fondness for cats and humans, and he's very...human, and he's an incongruous character that you can't help but love.

I think it's okay to write a character that is essentially you, as long as they're not the exact same person with altered features. I think the best examples of "self-insert" are just thinly veiled versions of the writer themselves. So what are your favorite "self-insert but that's okay" stories?
