How is there such a huge shortage of OTC cough syrup?

I counted 2 bottles of CVS cough syrup left at the target on 125th and 3rd. I have a CVS right next to the bodega, so I went in. They had none left.<br><br>I then went to my local Target. They had one bottle of CVS cough syrup left out of a whole shelf of CVS cough syrup. I asked them if they had any more. They said they should have a new shipment in a month. <br><br>I made a bunch of calls to the CVS in the area. Most CVS stores didn’t have any cough syrup. The CVS I called in Brooklyn had 1 bottle left. I said I’m in Queens and asked how I was going to get it there. The CVS employee said she was sorry with a tone of voice that looked like she was just giving me a courtesy “sorry”. She said something along the lines of things being lost in transit and supply chain issues.<br><br>I then went to the local liquor store and they had a bottle of their generic cough syrup. It was 3 times what CVS charges and there was barely any active ingredient.
