I'm an american living in Japan, and seeing what my home country's done to its people with the ending of Roe v Wade makes me feel sick and ashamed.

Yes, I understand that the majority of the population in the US now wants it overturned.
But that doesnt change the fact that it was the right thing to do for a country that claims to be as developed as it is. If the majority of the population wants to keep abortion illegal, then states like California and Oregon should be allowed to have it. Republicans used to be for states rights to allow different states to have their own rules, but now thats changed. Why? Because this was never about the constitition was it? It was never about being a good republican, or the right thing to do. It was a power grab, to make people vote for republicans, to make people vote against their interests.

All those republicans saying, "oh, you can just drive to a different state, what's the problem, it's only a 4 hour drive!" If you're a single mother working two jobs, do you have the money to drive that distance? What about the appointment you have on the day you take off work for an abortion? The money to fuel your car? Why should you have to?

And now that the supreme court has ruled that a right that was previously recognized as a right by the constitution or not can be overturned, what do you think will happen next? Do you think they'll stop at abortion? Shouldn't you be afraid that the supreme court will overturn other rulings, since they've already overturned this one? How hard do you think it will be for them to overturn a right once it's been done? Why should a judge appointed by Trump get to decide what the people can and can't do? Is that democracy? Do you want the supreme court deciding everything else you do, is that what you want? Is this really what you want?

And now that the supreme court has taken away a woman's right to her own body, what comes next? Will we one day see the ban of contraceptives? Do you realize that planned parenthood does so much more than abortions? It provides Birth control to young and lower income people. It provides many other things as well that are important to families. But republicans would rather you die than have them pay for a baby to be born and live a healthy life.

I don't understand looking at this as a victory. I don't understand looking at this as anything but a complete and utter defeat for the American people, especially for women. What is the point of this ruling? You can't stop abortions. Do you think this will lower the rates of abortions? All you're doing is making them more dangerous. I can't imagine how many women will die because of this. Now states that are deeply republican will just have more women suffering and dying from poor medical care. Why? Why? Why? Why is this a good thing?
