College cooking essentials

I’m an 18 year old guy who will be going to college in the fall. I’ve never cooked anything in my life except for instant noodles, but I noticed that my meal plan options are restricted due to cost and food allergies I have. I want to learn cooking in the kitchen since I won’t be able to afford eating out most of the time and the allergy situation.

I have a kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, and electric stove top, and I know I’m supposed to get a pot and a pan, but are there any other things I should get? I’m also willing to purchase a rice cooker or instant pot if it’ll make it easier to cook food but idk if I should get one of those or get extra pots and pans.

Thanks for the help, this sub has really been a lot of help with figuring out what types of food to make and how to make them.
