It seems like we're having a two steps forward one step back scenario where we're becoming increasingly more wealthy and prosperous. Why not just get rid of the step back part?

tldr: The global poverty rate has continued to remain low. The number of people living in 2011 on less than USD 1.90 a day (adjusted for inflation) is below 700 million for the first time. That figure is 8.6% of the world's population. The world is richer and more prosperous than ever before, but there is still one billion people that are living in < $3.65/day (adjusted for inflation). That figure is 13% of the global population. There is still a lot of work to be done in order to basically eradicate poverty across the world.

Who is it that is still poor? Mostly African people in largely rural
villages. People that are experiencing periods of conflict or war. Or people that are living in largely economic collapsed regions, like Afghanistan.

This is a reminder that there is still work to be done in terms of helping those that are
impacted more by factors that aren't necessarily under their control. Like war. Economic collapse. A government that is authoritarian.
