My friend and his wife are really mad at me for breaking up with my girlfriend after she expressed that she was too good for them and didn’t like me being friends with them.

Basically my girl and I were in a serious relationship and everything was great until she met my friends and their spouses. My friend is a high school janitor and his wife works in the school cafeteria. I know it’s not the most prestigious job but they make do and they’re really good people. So my girlfriend wasn’t impressed and thought they were weird because of their jobs. She didn’t want me to hang out with them because she thought they were embarrassing. I told her she was being really mean and I wasn’t going to stop being friends with them. She broke up with me but I ended up breaking up with her. My friends really appreciate what I did but I feel bad that the relationship ended over them. Like if they weren’t my friends, my ex and I would still be together.
