AITA for expecting a credit on my rent after my landlords father died there?

My name is Ashley and I am currently 24 years old. I graduated college in 2020 and I am currently an intern for a medical practice. My best friend/supervisor, Lauren, and her husband “bought” a condo in a really nice neighborhood. They weren’t sure if they wanted to live in the condo full time so they decided to rent it out to me for a couple of months at a time. I have known Lauren since I was a child and she is like a sister to me. They are also selling the condo at an extremely discounted price. I currently pay $1200 a month for what would be a $3,000 a month 1 bedroom/1.5 bathroom condo in an upscale neighborhood near downtown Chicago.

The landlord/landlords wife/supervisors parents were in charge of checking the condo every few weeks when we weren’t there. A couple months ago, the landlords father was inspecting the condo and he ended up having a heart attack and unfortunately passed away. He passed away in the bedroom and they ended up hiring someone to professionally clean the condo.

The landlord and his wife now want to raise my rent $400 to $1600 a month. I told them that I am not willing to pay that much in rent. Both the landlord and his wife got very upset with me and said that if I don’t agree to pay the increased price in rent that I will receive an eviction notice. I agreed to this and when they sent me the new lease, I asked for a one time credit of $1600 for the rent/mortgage that they lost when their father passed away. They got upset and said that I am being “greedy and inconsiderate”.

AITA for asking for a credit towards the rent that they lost when their father passed away?
