The numbers 23 and 26 or 26 and 23 are the digits that are in the Caller ID when you get a robocall. Every time.

This is something that I noticed the first time about maybe a year ago. I was getting ready for work one morning and I had to stop and do something else. As I was rushing to go I got a robocall. I had to answer it. I didn’t have time to look at the Caller ID. I thought I had to go into my phone logs manually to see who it is. But the robocall said to press 1 to get removed from the list. (I’ve pressed 1 and still get robocalls from the same number, but that’s not important).

I just wanted to see the number, and as I looked at the screen I saw the two numbers in the Caller ID. Then I started to think if I notice it for the last however many robocalls. I manually went through my call logs. And nearly every single robocall from the last few days had either 26 or 23 in the Caller ID. So I thought it must only come up on my phone with whatever area code I’m in. But I kept thinking, what if this isn’t just me? What if it’s other people too?

So I decided to do the following. For the past 12 months I’ve been checking my Caller ID for every robocall. I’ve been manually writing each phone number in my call log. I have literally logged over 300 robocalls. And nearly every single one has the digits 23, 26 or 26, 23 in the number. I don’t even remember the last time I saw a robocall with neither. One time I got a robocall, took a look at the number. It was some random number and I thought this is the first one I’ve seen all year without 26 or 23. Then I decided to manually write it in my log. Then I see it. 23. I missed it because I didn’t see it right away. For example, 347-279-2032. I manually log in every number. That’s how I found out. The digits either 26 or 23 or 23 or 26 are literally in every single robocall number.

I also get robocalls where the Caller ID says it’s an unknown number. It happens every once in a while. I don’t get any robocalls that say “No Caller ID”. It’s always “Unknown Caller”. I always answer and it’s always a robocall. So I always wonder if an “Unknown Caller” call also has 26 or 23 in the caller ID and I can never see it.

The digits aren’t always next to each other. Sometimes it’s 278, 262, 526 or 274 or 726, 627 or 723, 732, 9023, 6723. Or 6236 or 1632 or 3629 or 4379 or 6732. The numbers are always there. You even get a call with a 1 on it to indicate that it’s a 10 digit phone number and then a 0. It’ll be 1-062-437-9862. 0624. 67332. The numbers 23 and 26 are always here. Sometimes it’s not in sequence but always in each number.

So then I started to notice the area code. Sometimes it’s 516. 631. 718. 656. 607. The area code is usually a NY area code, mostly because I live on Long Island. But it can be any area code. But what’s the first two numbers in it? 23. 26. Sometimes 24. Recently, 67. I never knew or paid attention to the different area codes in the US. But they seem to usually have 24, 26, and 67 as the first two digits of the three digit area code for the robocalls, mostly 26 and 23. Maybe I’m crazy and it’s already common knowledge but I had no idea.

I never really thought much of it before. But now I’m thinking that it’s just too weird. And now I want to know what it means. I’ve literally manually logged over 300 robocalls since last year. And every single one pretty much has 23, 26, 67 or 24 in the number. I have a family plan with my mother and father with T-Mobile and my mom’s phone number is 631-816-****. The first two numbers of the area code is 63. So I had to wonder if the area code is some sort of indicator for robocall companies? Maybe everyone on Long Island or New York has 631 or 516 as an area code. That’s why I get the most amount of robocalls with 516 and 631 as the area code. Maybe people in California has 916. But then I see all of the robocalls I get with random area codes all over the country. What does it mean?

I have so many questions and it’s eating at me. Does this happen to everyone? Or am I the only one who noticed this? Does it happen to you too? I use an iPhone and it doesn’t matter what SIM card I use or what phone service I have. I have T-Mobile. Recently I had Mint Mobile. It doesn’t matter. I don’t know what’s happening.
