So this is a pretty simple situation. My husband is a chef and at the moment he works at a restaurant owned by a friend of his. But today he had a day off and we were in the kitchen making cookies. I have a bunch of recipes and this is one of my favorites and I actually made it up by myself. I've gotten tons of compliments on them and everyone loves them so we decided to make some.

I went to the fridge to get the butter and when I came back there was a guy standing next to my husband. I didn't know who he was since he wasn't in his restaurant uniform. My husband introduced him as Chris and that he was working today at the restaurant. He was one of the first people my husband hired so they're friends.

I went back to what I was doing and after a while Chris said that the smell from the cookies was amazing and he asked if he could have one. I said I'd give him one but only if he helped us bake which he said ok to. After the cookies were done we offered Chris one and he said it tasted amazing.

I offered him another one and he asked if he could have the recipe. I told him no. He looked shocked so I just started talking and I told him it took me A LOT of different permutations to get the perfect cookie and when I brought them to work people loved them and they would stop buying from the bakery across the street so I have to protect them.

Chris looked disappointed and my husband said that I could give him the recipe. I told him no and we got into an argument about it. Chris said we didn't have to and my husband said that I was being stubborn and I should give it to him. I said I wasn't being stubborn I was protecting my career and the bakers at my old work. I also added that if he gave his secret recipes he'd be out of a job. He asked Chris if he should give out his recipes and he said no.

My husband looked at me and said that I should give him the recipe. My husband's sister came through and she asked what was going on. Chris explained to her what was happening and said I was stubborn and I wouldn't give him a cookie. My husband's sister said I was right since we were strangers basically and she also agreed I should protect my career.

Chris got up and took the cookies and left. My husband was upset and said that I embarrassed him in front of his friend. I told him that I was protecting my career and friend's careers and I wouldn't give it out to basically a stranger. He rolled his eyes and said that I was being stubborn and I only cared about myself.

So I think this would've gone differently if I gave him the recipe.
