Do we really have the ability to reason?

In many philosophies and related literature, such as science, there is a strong emphasis on the power of reason as a means of arriving at truth. Science operates on the idea of rationality, using empiricism and experimentation to find truth. But what if, ultimately, our capacity to reason is quite limited? It seems as though our minds are shaped more by geography, society, religion, and circumstance than by rationality. Moreover, isn’t our way of understanding the world merely a product of how our brains are wired to perceive and process it? This understanding could be quite different if we were different organisms. Doesn’t this lead us to the conclusion that our ability to reason may not be as absolute as we suppose, and that our perception of reality may be very different from actual reality?
