I'm from Qatar, a Middle Eastern country in the desert region of GCC.

You see I'm Middle Eastern and have lived pretty much all my life in Qatar, except for when I go home for vacations in the summer and holidays to India. I can just tell that here the majority of the citizens are brown people, mostly South Asians. Arabs are a minority. There are more Asians than Arabs. Plus, we're always with our expat friends, Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nepalis, etc... So I was not used to seeing white people. But I did see some here and there, mostly British, Americans and Germans. They weren't a lot.

I just got to LA, Los Angeles for my university and I swear to God I've never seen this many white people in my entire life. It's insane. I'm literally seeing white people after white people. Everywhere. It's crazy. I'm not used to this. I feel like I'm in Iceland or Finland or something lol.

I came from a country where I was a minority. I was like 5% of the population. And now I feel like I'm in a country where I'd be 0.1% of the population. I'm dead.

Edit: I'm getting a lot of comments asking me why I'm surprised. I'm surprised because I'm from a country in the Middle East, specifically in the GCC region. GCC is a region consisting of 6 Arab states including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. GCC countries have a huge expat population. The GCC countries have a minority of citizens and majority of the population are foreign workers. In my country, Qatar, the citizens are 10-15% of the population, the rest are expats. Arabs are a minority in my country. We're like 20% or so of the population. So it's a very multicultural society. White people aren't very common in Qatar, they are around though. It's mostly Indians and other South Asians that are common in my country. Qatar gets a lot of expats from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Egypt, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Philippines and Sri Lanka. But it gets very few from European countries like UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy and other developed countries because those countries have very strong economies and Qatar doesn't really offer anything to citizens of those countries as they are much better off in their own countries. White people you see in Qatar are all wealthy businessmen and CEOs of big corporations. Rich people. So I don't see them very much. They're all in the nice areas of the city, not where us normal people live.

I know I'm not going to see many back in India but I was here in the US and I saw way more than I have in my entire life in my country and India so I was shocked at the sheer number of them. It was like culture shock to me. Very different from my country and India.

I know the US is a developed country and white people are common here but I'm from a different part of the world. A completely different culture and region. It's a very multicultural society but it's different from the multiculturalism here. The US is a melting pot of different cultures. My country is a salad bowl of cultures. Every culture is separated from each other, living their own lives. Here it's everyone living together and mingling.

Edit 2: Some people in the comments are saying that I'm racist. Let me explain something. I'm not racist. Racism is hate for people of other races than yours because of their race. Or prejudice for people of other races than yours because of their race. I'm not a racist. I'm just a brown guy from the Middle East who was shocked at seeing a lot of white people because I'm not used to seeing a lot of them. I didn't express hate or prejudice for white people. I just expressed my shock at seeing a lot of them and how it's not something that I'm used to. I'm not used to seeing a lot of white people. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not wrong to see a lot of white people and be surprised and tell others about it. Everyone experiences different cultures in different places and points of view. I'm just expressing mine. I'm not saying anything wrong or anything that is offensive or controversial. I think racism is a terrible thing and is unecessary and people who are racist should change their perspective and not be prejudice and hateful towards other races.

Edit 3:
I would also like to clarify that I'm not calling all Americans white. I'm just saying that I saw a lot of white people in the US. I know there are a lot of different races in the US, black, hispanic, Asian, etc... I saw a lot of hispanics and asians too. I'm just not used to seeing a lot of white people. The US is obviously a very multicultural society and very diverse. Every city and region is different and has a lot of different cultures and races. I understand that. Plus I just got to LA. I haven't been to the rest of America except for the airport in Chicago because my connecting flight to LA was there. I was only there for 45 minutes, from 12:15am to 1:00am. Plus it was midnight and the airport was empty so I didn't see anyone lol. So I haven't seen the rest of America and I know that the US is a very diverse and multicultural place. I'm just not used to seeing a lot of white people in general because I'm from the Middle East and I don't see too many white people often.
