Pay a professional to help when it feels like ‘too much work’

This is something I learned in college. But it’s stuck with me to this day. I’m not sure how many people know about it but I’ll explain it below.

If there is something you are doing or wish to do and it feels like ‘too much work’.

Simply pay someone to do it and help you.

I was doing my masters in engineering. And I was struggling a lot. I was doing 24 credits, working 30 hours a week, TAing for a class, and running a campus org.

My budget was $250/month for miscellaneous expenses.

But one day I was taking two courses for my major. One of them I was still fixing a 10 page paper I had worked on for three weeks. I had this paper, I was having a hard time. I was getting tired of working on it. I took a look at my budget, and I had about $200 left that I could use. I went to the tutoring center on campus, and paid one of my TAs $200 to help me fix the paper. She read my entire 10 page paper and reformatted it. She did everything I needed to get an A in 3 hours. My mind was blown. I had wasted 3 weeks and had paid $200 and my paper was done. After that I had a new motto, ‘pay a professional when it feels too hard’.

Since then, i have paid students on campus to do my laundry because I was too busy. I have paid writers online to write my cover letters. I have even paid college students to help me fix my resume multiple times.

This applies to real life too. I have paid a consultant to help me get my dream job. I have paid a company to help me with my taxes and save $5000. I even have a personal trainer because I knew I couldn’t do it by myself.

Anyways, if you want to be more productive, I think sometimes simply paying someone to do a task that may take you way too much time but doesn’t pay you enough, makes a lot of sense.

If anyone else does this too, please let me know in the comments.
