So, how do I make the sexuality of my characters clear without being explicit?

I have a world with several non-human races, and several of these races can change sex and may change sex multiple times in their life. I have several characters who change sex during the course of the story, as well as a few who are currently the same sex as they were at birth.

Most of these characters are also androgynous in appearance and speech, particularly while they are still young. It's also common for them to be referred to by masculine or neutral pronouns, regardless of their biological gender, personality, or sexual orientation.

I am not a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, but I don't want the story to sound homophobic or transphobic. I just don't know how to clearly convey these characters' sexualities in text, without being gross or explicit. Is there a way to do it tastefully?
