Ive been to Japan 10 times, but have never once encountered rude service. That is until recently, but I am happy to say it was a plus for me!

Long story short, I was in Tokyo, staying at a hotel that allows guests to use their fitness centre for a fee. I paid to use the fitness centre during my stay, then went up to my hotel room and ordered room service.

I was told in no uncertain terms by the person over the phone that I was "banned" from eating in the room and had to finish the meal in under 30 minutes in the hotel restaurant - this is because I had paid to use the fitness centre.

I asked why I couldn't eat in my room, and was told because my body could stink up the room after using the fitness centre (but that I would be fine in the public restaurant). Then I asked again why I couldn't eat in my room, and was curtly told that it was included in the cost of the fitness centre and if I didn't like it, to call the fitness centre and ask for a refund.

My dinner was pretty late (around 9pm), and I was half thinking that I would be on my own in the restaurant, but tables were still being used and I had to sit at the practise bar so the restaurant could put some sticky note with a bell on it.

The dinner was very delicious, and I could understand why I would have been banned from eating in my room after using the fitness centre.
