He had been a completely ordinary looking fellow, now a roaring inferno.

The security team didn’t seem terribly surprised, they just quickly rolled out an extinguisher cart. After putting out the fire, they hosed him down and shoveled the remains into a bucket. They scanned his charred remains through an x-ray machine, and I saw the faint outline of a briefcase.

“Is there anything flammable in your bag?” the TSA agent asked, pulling my luggage off the scanner.

“Nope.” I replied.

“Sir, there is something flammable in this bag.”

I opened it and pushed the clothes around, searching. That’s when I noticed the boarding pass. The name on it wasn’t mine. The destination was not where I was going.

“You there, Sir!”

I looked up and the TSA agent was holding the bag. “Is this yours?”

It was my bag. But again, the name on the boarding pass attached to it was not mine. It was the same destination as the first one I found though.

“Sir, please answer me.”

I stood there, dumbfounded, as the agent started to empty the bag onto the scanner belt.

More boarding passes. I was a traveling Inferno factory.

“Sir, are you alright?”

I nodded, still silent.

“Sir, speak to me.”

I shook my head, still silent.

The TSA agents started to stare at me. One of them whispered the dreaded words, “We need to scan you.”

They took me aside and started to wand me. A boarding pass fell out of my sleeve, into my hand.

“Sir, please explain yourself!”

I knew why I was there. I had to move the boarding passes around. I had to make sure the next man to go through the scanner would burn.

I looked at the boarding pass in my hand.

The destination was nowhere I had ever heard of.

I wondered what would happen if I did burn. Would it be like the man in front of me, who had burned away to nothing?

I made my decision.

I shoved the boarding pass in my pocket, and walked through the scanner.
