I’m a chef and I’ve been living a lie about the quality and authenticity of my food

I’m a personal chef for a upper class family in the US with a multi-million dollar house who go on many vacations every year. They claim they miss authentic European and Asian food after living abroad for several years.

When I first started cooking for them I would genuinely make everything form scratch (pastas, curries, stir fries, etc.) and they would always complain that it wasn’t the same as what they had while abroad. I was confused because it was supposed to be authentic (call me dumb idk).

One day I had an idea. Instead of making the food from scratch I would lie and say I did but in reality I would use pre-made sauces/other products to create the dish. I also stopped using high quality ingredients. I made an authentic ramen using Maruchan (a brand of instant ramen) and some pork/sauce. They said it reminded them of ramen they had in Tokyo. I did this with other foods, like using seed oils instead of decent oils, Maggi sauces, etc and they would say it was authentic.

Now I don’t give a shit about the quality of the food anymore when I make it for them, and I don’t think they would ever know. It saves me time and money and they’re happy, though it goes against everything as a chef.
