Why not to use Chat GPT

I don't know how many of you are using this platform, but please, for the love of all that's good, do not rely on it. I've seen countless posts of people on this chamber using it as a crutch. <br><br>First of all, please stop and think of the reasons you're in school. Is it to learn? Is it to achieve academic success? Or is it to cheat? If you're so overwhelmed that you can't handle your coursework, *let your professors know*. Most universities have policies in place for students who are working while going to class; these policies exist to help you. <br><br>I recently asked the AI to explain a question that a student brought to my attention. It completely misunderstood the question and gave a response that I wouldn't have accepted in a high school class. <br><br>Beyond that, many of us use Turnitin. If you turn in a paper that was generated while using it, it will be flagged as academic plagiarism. This isn't an accusation yet. It's an opportunity for us to review it, but if we suspect that you've cheated, we will *not* hesitate to report it. <br><br>I'd like to emphasize that we have been teaching for years and years. We can tell the difference between a high schooler and a robot. We can tell if a student who types out of grammatical sentences is cheating. <br><br>I will never tell you whether or not I believe you cheated. If you're accused of cheating, it goes straight to the department head and then to the dean. I've reported many students who are struggling to stay afloat because they wouldn't listen. <br><br>Beyond anything else, you're cheating yourself. You're cheating yourself out of knowledge, but you're also cheating yourself out of self-confidence. You're cheating yourself out of self-assurance. You're cheating yourself when you graduate with all of your classmates knowing that you didn't truly *earn* your diplomas. <br><br>And please, *please*, for the love of all that is good, quit pretending that cheating isn't cheating. You are cheating. There is no way around it. <br><br>Please, for your own sake, don't use Chat GPT.
