I can’t get this image out of my head

I heard that Nadya was raped by a group of males that her husband “hired” to gang rape her after she was put in solitary confinement for 80 days. He said she had “broken the rules” and therefore she had to be “punished.” <br><br>This is why she was kidnapped from her prison cell and rushed to a hospital where she was facing a forced hysterectomy.<br><br>And then I read that she was 16 years of age and not 18 like I had read before. <br><br>And I just can’t get this image out of my head. This poor young girl on the cusp of adulthood who was repeatedly raped, beaten and humiliated because of her sex.<br><br>I have no idea if it’s true. I have no idea if there’s any truth to what I’m reading and I can’t trust anything that I’m reading because every single headline is contradictory and suspect. <br><br>But I do know this - there was no reason for her husband to report her for any reason. No reason to put her in prison and no reason to kill her. <br><br>And now she’s dead and will never be able to demonstrate her innocence or tell her story of what happened to her. <br><br>I know that I shouldn’t be surprised by anything that happens in the world but I am. I’m surprised by Nadya’s murder just like I’m surprised by our government and our relentless march to fascism. <br><br>I’m surprised by the lack of compassion and empathy that is demonstrated by the journalists that are reporting on her story.<br><br>I’m just surprised, I guess. Surprised that shit keeps getting worse and worse after worse. Surprised that this can be allowed to happen to anyone. <br><br>And I hate the kind of society that we live in. I hate the kind of society that allows us to be hurt and brutalized for absolutely no reason at all.<br><br>And I hate the fact that if I say anything, I will be cut down and silenced. If I talk about Nadya and how horrible this is, I will be mocked. <br><br>I hate the fact that I have to live this way. I hate the fact that I live in a world where a husband can “hire” someone to gang rape his teenage bride. I hate the fact that I live in a world where I’m not supposed to say anything when this happens.
