I want to say something about gender roles

I am tired of hearing people say things like “women can choose to be stay at home moms if they want to be, gender roles are gone.” They are not gone, and they do not need to be gone. Gender roles do not restrict gender, they don’t restrict people from doing whatever they want. A stay at home dad and a working stay at home mom are just fine, I don’t have a problem with that. Gender roles just state what is normally expected of a gender, and also state what role a gender tends to do better. Gender roles allow us to know what genders are represented more in certain fields, what genders are more likely to be single moms, etc. They do not restrict what you can or cannot do, they just provide context and statistics.
