My kid is 15. He’s a freshmen. Just not quite 5ft tall almost 110lbs. He’s a skinny kid. But he’s not skinny in the same way a good percentage of boys this age are skinny. He’s a bit more on the 80 pound side.

He got into a fight with a larger kid. I’m talking 5’10” 130/140 lbs. That kid had some muscle mass on him. He was at least 2-3 years older than my son and looked like he worked out or was active in sports.

The other kid started the fight. Long story short my son didn’t stand a chance. He has a fractured eye socket and a fractured cheek bone.

The other was just dragged to the principal’s office. Nothing else. He wasn’t even called on the carpet for anything. He’s still at school and my son is at home. He won’t be able to return to school for a while. He’s going to have surgery on his face tomorrow.

I’m angry. I don’t know how to navigate this situation. I feel like my son was beat up and there's really no way to see justice served because we live in a society where if you defend yourself you’re supposed to defend yourself in such a way that you don’t hurt the other person at all. He’s not a ninja or Spider-Man. He doesn’t know how to fight like that.

I don’t know what to do. Do I get a lawyer? Do I contact the school? Do I go to the media? Do I go to the police?
