AITA for wearing sunscreen in the shower?

This happened when I was 15-16 years old.

I'm a pretty fair skinned white person who is very sensitive to the sun. Any time I go outside for a long period of time, especially without sunscreen, I get pretty bad burns.

One of my friends in high school had a beach-themed birthday party that lasted for 2 days. The second day was at this beachside resort of one of his family friends. I hadn't been able to come the day before since I didn't have a car and my parents were busy. I only had my friend's dad pick me up and drive me up to the party.

This meant that I was coming from a closed indoor space to 3 hours outside in the direct midday sun. I didn't have a car to drive to a store to buy sunscreen before the resort, so I packed some specifically for the shower. It was a cheap dollar-store sunscreen and I applied it with warm water, not a loofa or body wash. It went on pretty evenly and did its job for the next few hours we were on the beach and in the water.

The problem came when we wanted to go for a swim in the community pool. The owner didn't want the sunscreen from everyone to stain the pool, which made sense. I told him my situation about not being able to buy sunscreen and my planned work-around. He told me it was my fault that I didn't stop at a store and that I was being overly dramatic about my burn risk (he had no problem with me hanging out in the shade by the pool, just not going in the water).

I was pretty upset and didn't want to ruin the party for my friend and the other invitees. I told him that I couldn't go in the pool that day under those conditions and was going to head home. The birthday boy said I was being dramatic and ruining his party. We had a minor argument with him about that, but I got a ride back with another friend who had driven and spent the day just grabbing coffee and studying at a café before someone else drove me home.

My parents were pretty furious about this when they got home, but still think it was my fault for not going to a store on my own before the party started. It's been a point of contention for me ever since, especially since all of my burns were from hanging out in the shade.
