Dr. Fauci made a recommendation that children not go trick-or-treating this year, but his wife, Christine Grady, overruled him:<br><br>>Dr. Anthony Fauci's wife, Christine Grady, says their children will be trick-or-treating this Halloween season, despite her husband's reservations about the safety of the tradition during the COVID-19 pandemic.<br><br>>[Fauci] said he wouldn't want his own kids to go trick-or-treating in the Washington D.C. area where they live, but added that it's "tricky" because "you don't know whether or not they're going to get infected."<br><br>>"But, and this is my opinion, I think that it's a relatively low risk if you do it correctly. And if you don't [do it correctly], then you could get infected," he said.<br><br>>However, his wife Dr. Christine Grady, who is also the chief of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, later joked to CNN that she overruled Fauci on Halloween.<br><br>>“My husband is not going to be the one to take away trick-or-treating,” Grady said. “So, we’ll do the best we can and our kids are older anyway, they're not little kids, so we’ll figure it out. We’ll make the best decision we can.”<br><br>>On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines for safely celebrating Halloween this year, with a green, yellow and orange color-coded system indicating the risk levels for various Halloween activities.<br><br>>According to the guidelines, typical trick-or-treating, where children go door-to-door in their neighborhoods to ask for candy and other treats, is considered a "higher-risk activity."
