CMV: Racism is much like the paranormal as a concept that exists, but is rare and when most people say they have experienced it, they are wrong.

I'm sure I'll get a decent amount of downvotes for this post. I understand. I'm not trying to shift the blame of anyone who has been a victim of racism onto them. What I am saying is this:

Racism as an organized institution is essentially gone, and the idea of a 40 year old person pointing out racism as the reason for their failures is misguided. Many of them are pointing to racism as the excuse for why they didn't work hard or why they didn't try harder to reach their goals. It's a scapegoat.

Most people don't like to admit to themselves that they're a failure and pick out an excuse to blame their failures on. I've seen this many times, and I'm sure you have too. It's unfortunate, and it's the same with this subject. While I admit that racism does indeed exist, the vast majority of people who claim they've experienced racism are simply pointing to an excuse to blame their failures on.

Here's an example of what I mean:

I was talking to a guy in his mid 30's who was working in a fast food restaurant. I asked him what made him end up here. He wasn't poor, didn't have any sort of disability, and had actually graduated from high school (though never attended college). He told me that it was because he was black and society just shunned him. He was blaming society for his failures. And he's not alone.

The reason I bring UP the paranormal was a nice way to describe it. There's most likely other intelligent life in the universe somewhere, but it's so rare that when people say they have experienced it, we should generally be skeptical. But we're not when we hear people say they've experienced racism. We immediately jump to the assumption that it's true, which isn't always right.

I understand this may be a pretty unpopular viewpoint on Chambers, but I felt I needed to voice it, as a lot of people (across all races) blame their failures on racism.

Edit:

I should add that I'm black, so I cannot be racist or biased towards my own race. Please stop accusing me of this.

Edit 2: After about 6 hours of fighting and talking to many people about change of perspective, I think I've changed my view. My view now is that racism is much like the paranormal as a concept that exists, but is rare and when most people say they have experienced it in the modern day, it's because they're misinterpreting the situation in their own biased view.
