* An average couple has a 51% chance of being together for 20 years. An average couple with a child has less than a 20% chance of being together for 20 years. I've never seen numbers more jarring than this, it's effectively stating that the vast majority of men who become fathers will have their female partner leave them within a few years of that, and therefore he will lose everything, including his child.
* The number of births outside of wedlock is close to 50%, meaning that the number of men becoming single fathers approaches 20-30% of all births.

______

If you think the solution to this is "get a better woman", that's not how statistics work. If I buy 100 packs of cards, I'm not going to win big just because I have 100 cards, I'm still playing the same odds. Men are not a lottery ticket that you scratch off and voila, you get money, they are a human being that you treat equally, and if you become a parent, you are a parent together, for better or for worse. You have the obligation as the other parent to make sure that continues.
