Is it valuable to learn German?

I've been considering taking German in college next semester, assuming I can get in to the class, because I'm considering eventually joining the US military and I've heard that they have bases in Germany. German is also a difficult language to learn so I'd rather take it from someone who can teach it than try to learn it myself. <br>From what I understand, knowing German would be beneficial to me in these areas, but I'm not sure what kind of careers I would be suited for if I knew German.
