Look, I’ve been in the industry for a little under six years. I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder and OCD for a collective three years. Even with all the education and medical progress we’ve made, it feels like admission of mental illness is a taboo subject in everyday life, and the service industry is no exception.

Personally, I feel that if I were to be brutally honest about all the medication I take, all the times I need to step away for a moment, or the nights I’m just not okay but have to come into work anyway, I would lose my job. Unfortunately for myself and my wallet, I am by no means in a position to be able to take time off. With the way people generally react to mental illness, I feel that uttering a word about it would jeopardize my job.

Idk, maybe my thoughts and feelings on this matter are irrational or just plain incorrect, change my view.

Edit: I apologize to those of you on mobile, I’m not sure what happened. This was originally posted on a throwaway but somehow ended up on my main account.
