I've got a little story to tell. Back at the end of high school my gf and I had a scare. You know, the condom broke the night before my prom and we both panicked as we had to wait a couple days to find out if she was actually pregant.

Fortunately I had a Plan B pill in my car. I don't know why I had it, but I remember walking out of the pharmacy at 17 and thought to myself, "It can't hurt to have this emergency kit somewhere".

She took it and a couple days later we both breathed a sigh of relief as she was good to go, no pregnancy.

When spring rolled around I turned 18 and decided I didn't want to risk ever having kids. I did some research and found a doctor, who for $1,200, would give me a vasectomy.

I had the procedure done and it was about as simple as getting a flu shot. Felt a small pinch and the doctor was done. That was 8 years ago and I haven't regretted it a day since.

Last night I learned that my HS gf did end up having a kid a couple years after we broke up. She dropped out of college, had a boy, and by the time he was 2 she had dropped out of college and was working at a gas station. She's now 26 and the kid is 6. She has a dead end job and no real chance of ever really improving her lot in life.

I on the other hand, went to college, got an engineering degree, and have a well paying job. I have been able to go travel to over 50 countries, hike the Appalachian Trail, walk across Spain, etc. I could not have achieved any of my goals if I had become a teen dad.

So I just want to say, thank you to me at 18 for making the greatest decision I ever have. I probably would not be alive today if I had gotten my ex pregnant.
