My own reasons for not believing in God, the ones that have come from my own studies and observations. I enjoy arguing my point, but I do not enjoy being argued with about it. I will take your points of view into consideration but I usually do not change my mind. I find it a truly wasted effort to argue with people whom do not wish to consider other points of view. If you have an absolute in your belief system that's fine, I respect belief in most any religion. What I do not respect is the fact that most people cannot accept the fact that they are wrong about anything. I am always up for debate on the topic in a respectful manner.

Now on to the ten points that make me believe there was no supernatural god.

1. Lack of Empirical Evidence:
Empirical evidence is the evidence or proof provided by observation and experience rather than theory or pure logic. Despite the huge amount of data collected and recorded by humans throughout history, there remains absolutely no empirical evidence for the existence of any gods. Religion and the idea of gods were created by man, and for man.

2. The Bible is not the word of God
I have read the Bible from cover to cover. Much of the things in that book are absolutely childish. It is not the literal word of God. I have seen many people use the Bible as their proof that God exists. The Bible is not a valid source of information to prove the existence of God. If I were God I would want my followers to act better then the Christians do. I cannot stand the Christians who say they are doing it for God, but then in the same breath say they will send me to hell for questioning the existence of God.

3. The Bible contradicts science
I will not say that science holds all of the answers, but it does hold more than the Bible. I have read the Bible, it is totally contradictory to science and reality. The Bible schematically illustrates a completely wrong view of how stars, planets, galaxies, and the cosmos works. The Bible has been used to support slavery, kill witches, and burn non-believers at the stake. The Bible is not a valid source of information.

4. Evolution is officially recognized science; Creationism is officially recognized as hooey
There is no proof for creationism, it is completely contradictory to the laws of physics, and there is no evidence to support Adam and Eve being the first humans on the planet. Yet somehow us non believers are the ones who are crazy. Evolution has been scientifically proven and gives us a good understanding of the natural history of the world. Evolution is useful and has been used to improve crops, livestock, and medicine. Creationism has nothing to offer.

5. The Laws of Physics Apply to Everyone
Science and the laws of physics are all we need to explain how everything works.
No supernatural or paranormal explanations are required. Gravity, friction, buoyancy, relativity, and the laws of motion are all we need to understand the natural world completely.

6. Morality and Ethics are Described by Science Better than by the Bible
Humanism and freethought and secular humanism, are all ways of expressing the simple notion that each person should act, after due deliberation, so as to make life better for all others. Secular humanism rejects the idea of a superior being or beings to worship. Secular humanism rejects supernatural explanations of reality in favor of rational and scientific ones. Many people believe that life without God would be meaningless, that it is our choosing to be moral and ethical.

7. The concept of sin is completely absurd
The Bible defines sin as rebellion against God. Another definition for sin is an act or thought that is in violation of a moral or cultural or divine law. Many Christians accept Jesus into their lives because they want to "stay out of hell." Sin is completely made up by man, to control people. Sin does not exist as the Christians define it.

8. The Bible's Depiction of Hell is Immoral
The Bible's depiction of hell is not just despicable, it's also not practical. If people who did good things on earth but never believed in Jesus during their life are sent to hell for eternity, that is despicable. Many Christians talk about hell as if it's a good thing because it keeps people in line. What a terrible and immature thing to believe! I can't imagine condoning such merciless and endless suffering.

9. Prayer Studies Show No Effect and Prayer Does Not Heal
All studies have shown prayer to have no effect. If prayer worked, it would be a central part of every science curriculum. Christians would not send their sick kids to a hospital, they would anoint them with oil and pray for their recovery. The same would be true for every doctor and every disease. Christians do not pray for healing anymore because they all know that it does not work. Many Christians have told me that a relationship with God is the most important thing in life. If healing is what you want, you're praying for the wrong thing.

10. Secular Countries Are Better Run
Non-religious countries are better run than religious countries. Without exception, the least religious countries and states exhibit the lowest levels of social dysfunction. The most religious countries and states suffer the highest levels of societal ills. Christianity is specifically associated with higher rates of homicide, suicide, and teenage pregnancy.

Unless you are religious, you are probably recognizing these points as true. If you are religious, you might be feeling defensive, angry, or hurt by these points. Good. That is the purpose of my post, to make you angry enough to question your beliefs. I invite Christians to e-mail me, I will take your points into consideration. I will however not change my beliefs because of a few words from a stranger.
