What is the point of a bullpup rifle?

I can't seem to understand the point of bullpup rifles. I was doing some research on them for my assault rifle project and it seems like they're just not fun to shoot. They seem to be really expensive, painful to shoot, not really that practical for civilians, and they just seem like a niche niche. I don't really see much point in having a bullpup rifle.
