My (34M) brother (17M) is peeved by the patriarchy.

I (34M) have a younger brother (17M) who's 17. He's a pretty laid back, goofy guy. He likes getting high and playing video games, plays basketball for his high school, and has girls after him all the time. Also, has a full ride scholarship to go to whatever school he wants. I'm not stressing his good fortune- I'm just painting a picture of the kind of privileged life he's had so far.

Anyway, I've had this sinking feeling that he's going to turn into a bitter and angry boyo/man. Not because of how he was raised, but just because I think he'll be disappointed that his life isn't like Grand Theft Auto V in the real world.

Well, tonight, I was proved right. I called him up to see how his day went; he was all smiles until I brought up what he did in school. Right now, he's got advanced English, which is an elective. He's otherwise pretty good academically, though, historically, his Ritalin prescription skews his grades in certain subjects. Anyway, he starts rambling about how he got a B- on his essay. He was pretty peeved about it, and I was like "What the hell, he usually does well on that stuff?" He tells me that he is pretty sure he got that grade because his teacher (f30) was jealous that he (m17) was being logical and reasonable, but that mostly, he's considered a male, so she already has it out for him: "she hates men." I asked him to elaborate, and boy, did he ever.

According to him, he wrote a paper on desire v. love, then referenced Camille Paglia's take on desire. He accused his teacher of basically being sexist towards him, saying that she hates males and that males are discriminated against in a patriarchal society.

I'm fucking confused at this point. I asked him to elaborate, and boy, did he ever. He said basically that the patriarchy has been a raw deal for men; that he's been screwed over by the patriarchy in that he must obtain success and status to be attractive to females, while females do nothing but exist to get male attention, and that they have it much easier than males in that regard. He thinks that his teacher basically wants him to fail because he's a male who challenged her perspective, and that his perspective was far more logical and reasonable than hers, but that she refused to acknowledge his points because she was butthurt that he was right and she was wrong.

I asked him if he was stupid. I told him that his teacher is a subject matter expert, that she's lived in this world longer and knows more than him. He called her a "braindead feminist" and said that she was trying to undermine his perspective because she was intimidated by his superior take. I asked him if he was projecting because he's sexist. He said that he wasn't, that she was the sexist one. I asked him if he was being purposefully obtuse, and if he was actually this stupid. Not only was he offended by that, but he said that I was just defending his teacher because I'm a white knight, and that he's actually very reasonable, but that reason is a "masculine concept." I laughed so hard I snorted. I told him to go outside and get some fresh air. He hung up on me.
