Perhaps controversial: Shinko (Healer) is an awful anime that shouldn't be watched

Well, I'm not sure about the popularity of the recent season of Shinko here but I've been seeing a lot of recommendations in the last few months and I usually dislike discussing this anime because of the backlash I receive from suggesting not to watch it. I'm usually the one who defends Mal and suggests you watch it if you dislike slice of life anime and want a more serious storyline. I'd be happy to be proved wrong if anyone can show me a good point in defence against what I'm about to say, but I have yet to see it.<br><br>**Malallerie:** I think she's a heated subject of debate and I'm sure I'm going to be downvoted for this but I don't see her as strong or admirable. Either that, or it's purely based on her physical prowess and not on her personality. She's stoic, I'll give it that. But she has a very crude and loud way of speaking and is literally the loudest character in the entire anime, in every scene she's in. I don't think that makes her strong; I'm not sure what word I'd use for it but it most definitely doesn't make her admirable. I think the only part I found funny was her talking to the bullies (the less popular scene) but it was also very cringy and over-the-top. <br><br>Her backstory has been discussed, and it isn't a tragedy. I mean, sure, it's awful that she was bullied. But I don't think that's some form of tragic backstory.<br><br>I also don't like her dynamic with Nana. I dislike it when anime characters have a dynamic with each other that is centred around Malallerie being stoic and not caring about them, and Nana being a hyperactive clingy girl who tries to get Mal to smile. It's very unoriginal, and I don't like the way Nana treats Mal either. She's literally the reason things go wrong, and it's not a tragic thing. She's just a terrible and selfish character who ruins everyone's lives. <br><br>**Nana:** Most of you won't agree with this but I don't see her as tragic at all. She's a character who is selfish and ignorant and self-centred. She doesn't care about the consequences of her actions. She's loud, hyperactive and clingy. She puts Mal and herself in danger for the sake of her own selfish desires. She's taking care of the people who want to kill her in the first place, because she has nothing to lose. She tries to make friends out of the people who clearly don't want to be friends with her. She tries to get them to care about her, and she uses guilt trips to get them to do it. She's very manipulative in the way she presents herself and her backstory to make the other characters care about her. It's not a tragedy; it's her own fault. At the end of the day, it's because of her that Mal went to the front lines. This is an awful anime with an awful set of characters and I genuinely don't recommend it to anyone.
