I'm on my fourth draft of my book, and I've started using Dropbox for everything.

Hey guys,
I'm on my fourth draft of my fantasy novel, and it's been a journey. In the beginning, I wrote the first full draft out in Google Docs. I cheated Dropbox for a full year (100GB free with 3 devices) by making an account for myself, my husband, and my friend. It was a nightmare. I would have to make copies upon copies, and then I would get confused as to which ones were the correct ones. I had files with the same name everywhere, and some didn't have dates. I had to go through Google Docs and figure out the correct order, then export them all to Word.

During this time, I used Grammarly, Dropbox, Google Docs, Scrivener, Hemingway, and Grammar Girl. I started with Grammarly, Google Docs, and Scrivener, and then moved to Grammarly, Grammar Girl, and Hemingway.

I hated how the words were highlighted in yellow, orange, and red. I loved how Grammarly would tell me the length and the readability of my passages. I loved how Grammar Girl would tell me where I was being redundant. I loved how Hemingway would tell me how to be more concise. I loved how Scrivener would tell me how many words per scene, how many scenes per chapter, and then I could combine chapters into acts.

I moved to Dropbox for the last 6 months, and I can't believe I didn't start with it. It's so much easier with just one version, one link, and one place to go back and look at all the versions. I still use Grammarly for readability, length, and the occasional grammar error, but I've largely abandoned Grammar Girl and Hemingway, and Scrivener.

My book has improved exponentially since the first draft, but it's been about a year now, and I'm starting to think I need to hit the brakes a little. I'm getting ready for the next draft, and I don't know where to go from here. I could go to an editing service, but it's expensive. I could get beta readers, but I've had people say they're interested and they never followed through. I need to get it out there, but I don't want to get hate reviews. I can feel the frustration growing inside of me, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm just wasting my time. I don't want to pay a bunch of money for editing or beta readers when I don't even know if it's worth it. I've rewritten so many scenes and characters, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm in the weeds here. Maybe I should go back to the beginning, or maybe I should rewrite it. I'm on my fourth draft, and I'm running out of steam. If you're a writer, do you have this problem? Do you have an idea for how I can improve my book? Please let me know.
