This question is about the average everyday German, not the high-ranking officials within the German government.

The best answer I've found so far is from a history professor who went through about 45 diaries from the time and noticed that the first written reference to labor/concentration camps was in 1933. By 1938, about 15% of the diaries mentioned negative stories about the treatment of Jews and by 1942, it was around 25%. By the end of the war, that number was around 50%.

However, I could not find much more information on the topic and that was only about what they wrote down in their diaries. There's no way to know what they knew but didn't write down. What did your average German know about the goings-on in the Ghettos in Poland and the concentration camps? When did they know about the mass exterminations? Did they continue to support the government even though they knew what was happening or did they continue to support the government out of fear of the SS?
