So, my family has this “zoo” with some animals like deer, goats, sheep, and birds. It’s in the woods pretty far from the nearest town (~40 min drive), but there’s this one family that lives nearby. They used to walk by the zoo sometimes with their dog, and my dad (the owner) used to give them free chicken to feed the birds sometimes.

I was there one weekend to help out, and this family came by again. The dad and son were there, and they said something like “Why is everybody changing? Usually everybody says hi.”

I said I was their daughter, and they said they didn’t know I spoke English. I said I did, but the people you see here are my dad’s employees, and they all speak Romanian. I then greeted them in Romanian.

Some background- as a kid I used to go to the zoo every weekend, and I’d greet everybody in Romanian like my dad does except one of the employees, who only speaks Hungarian. After not going there for years, I thought everybody still knew I spoke Romanian. The employees know, but they weren’t there, and this family only comes by like 2-3 times a year in the summer.

Anyway, a week later my dad calls me and says the wife from this family called him, saying I said something mean in a language she couldn’t understand, and the employees said I was speaking Latin so probably saying mean things. My dad said it’s not a big deal but they just want an apology.

I said fuck that shit. I’ll go there, I’ll apologize, but in Latin. My dad said that’s not the point, but I went anyway.

When I was there the whole family+dog was out for a walk, and I apologized to the mom in perfect Latin, which obviously they didn’t understand. The dad and son both knew what I was saying though, and they both agreed I was not the asshole.
