Today was the last teacher PD day before school starts and a guy in my grade got a call to come in and talk to the principal and he ended up quitting. I just got a call asking if I wanted the job as a long term sub for the first semester. I've never taught middle school before, I've been subbing at the high school in the district for 3 years and before that I student taught at another middle school.

My concern is that I want a job in that grade and at that school (my kids go to school in the district and it seems like a really nice school). I'm kind of concerned that if I take this job and struggle, I won't have a chance at a contract there. I feel like I would have to knock it out of the park as a new sub to a grade level I've never taught.

But, I could gain some valuable experience if I'm able to get the hang of it quickly.

Any thoughts?

I should add, I've subbed for the subject I'll be teaching. It's just the age group of kids that's different.
