I'm not sure if anyone is going to read this but it feels like I need to warn people

I go to a boarding school, and I just finished my first year. Someone in my dorm, let's call them Alex, is an A+ student but they are terribly lazy. Alex often uses AI apps to write essays, problem sets, summaries, etc, etc. It seems impossible but Alex got away with using those AI apps for every single assignment last year. Before you ask me why I care or why this is a problem, Alex didn't get away with everything. I think it was two weeks ago when Alex asked for an extension on their English essay. Teacher gave them an extension, but for some reason the AI apps weren't working. It was clear to me and to the teacher that Alex was panicking. Alex went to the library to finish the essay but I could see the tears in their eyes. When Alex turned in the essay, the teacher marked it as a 50% and gave Alex detention. Alex was already on the border line of detention so Alex is serving a two-week detention.

Alex broke down crying in the hallway because they couldn't handle it and at that moment I felt bad. It wasn't until last night that I thought about it more. Alex is one of the smartest in my year, and their grades aren't THAT great. Alex pushed themselves to the limit and got caught. If Alex had just done the work instead of relying on AI, they would not be in the position they are in now. Alex could've been a straight A student if they worked for it. It is all so sad in my opinion.
